    CAROL BERGHAN

Te Rarawa, Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Kahu, NgāiTakoto

Te Hiku Iwi Development Chief Executive Officer

Carol brings to her role as CEO a wealth of experience ranging from government, economic and commercial sectors. Currently, she has the privilege of building the architecture for a multi-collaboration between post Treaty Settlement Iwi in Te Hiku and redefining the relationship with the Crown. Carol’s brief is not just about social goodness alone, but extending beyond that to building a community founded on hope and prosperity.

Carol’s role is to enable effective and successful partnership engagement between Iwi and Government Agencies.  This includes supporting progress of the Social Accord Work Programme on behalf of Te Hiku Iwi Development Trust, building capacity and capability to maintain momentum in leadership and partnership with the Crown.

In early 2017, excited by the potential that the post settlement period holds for our people, Carol left her role as the Portfolio Manager for the Tai Tokerau Northland Economic Action Plan to join the Te Hiku Iwi Development Trust as General Manager.

Carol brings a breadth of experience to the Trust from previous roles in Government, economic and commercial sectors.  Carol’s unique experience, skill set, and whakapapa ensures that Te Hiku Iwi are not only well prepared for engagement with Government Agencies, but also strongly connected to the people of Te Hiku and the realities they face.

Previously, Carol worked for the Ministerial Economic Taskforce championed by the then Minister, Pita Sharples.  Carol’s senior public servant experience brings invaluable knowledge, relationships and insights into the machinery of Government.  Carol also has extensive knowledge of stakeholders across regional and central government, and Te Hiku.

Carol is a Te Hiku Iwi member and lives in Te Hiku.  She has invested and operated in several commercial activities and operations, including the management of a local tourism operation.  Carol's passion for tourism continues, and she continues to act as a champion for Tourism opportunities in the North.
